The 5 best VPNs in Zurich that give you secure and private browsing

  • Data Encryption Standards: I focused on VPN providers that utilise strong encryption, such as AES-256. I also checked that they support secure tunnelling protocols like OpenVPN for speed and reliability.
  • Swiss Data Privacy Compliance: I gave preference to firms that align with Switzerland’s strict data protection laws. Compliance with local privacy standards ensures that users have a safe digital environment.
  • Ease of Use and Speed: Each company had to deliver smooth and reliable performance without lag. This is why I sought firms that have applications providing user-friendly interfaces across multiple devices.
  • No-logs Policy: I focused on companies with strict no-logs policies and clear terms. This ensures that the VPN doesn’t track your activity and data remains private, even from the provider itself.
  • Online Reviews and Feedback: I wanted to ensure that the providers live up to their claims, which is why I reviewed real user feedback from various platforms.

I specifically searched for VPN providers in Zurich after working remotely across the city, which also meant accessing the internet in co-working spaces. It was obvious that I needed to protect my data from online attacks and unwanted monitoring.

Whether you’re a digital nomad who uses co-working spaces or simply someone who values online privacy, a reliable VPN is important. It’s because internet security is a necessity for anyone using public Wi-Fi or transferring files online.

After comparing several options and reviewing client feedback, I put together this guide to find the best VPN providers in Zurich. These firms are sure to give you a fast, secure, and private connection that you can trust.

How much do VPN services cost in Zurich?

VPN services in Zurich typically cost between CHF 3 and CHF 100, depending on the subscription type. However, prices vary depending on device limits, dedicated IPs, and advanced security features.

Planet VPN is a globally available provider with service coverage in Zurich and other areas of Europe. They offer 11 free server locations and provide strong security tools, including DNS/IP leak protection and a kill switch, exclusively for premium users.

A kill switch automatically cuts off your internet whenever the VPN drops. This prevents any data leaks until the VPN is restored. It also ensures that your identity and location won’t be revealed.

Unfortunately, they didn’t have a kill switch for the free plan. Only the premium users had access to these. The upgrade costs as low as CHF 3.50 per month if billed yearly.

But even without the kill switch, the free plan still offers strong data encryption, which I tested while staying in the area.

The connection was fast and stable, an uncommon thing for free VPNs. Some companies slow it down, but that wasn’t the case for Planet VPN.

The most notable feature that many users (myself included) liked was the strict “no logs” policy. They claim that they don’t keep records of your logs while using their services, regardless of the device or platform you use.

Pros

  • Has DNS/IP leak protection
  • Strict “no logs” policy
  • Their free VPN connection is fast and stable
  • Affordable monthly subscription prices

Cons

  • No kill switch for free plans

The speed is stable and works brilliantly

“I have been using this vpn for quite a long period about some months. I have downloaded it because it is free. The speed is stable and works brilliant. VPN has never been fault on my devices. I use it regularly for social media and watch videos. It hasn’t got any limits, it’s cool. For me it’s the best VPN, that I’ve ever used. Believe me, I’ve downloaded a lot before.”

Has no time limit and has a great connection

“Probably one of the best VPN’s i’ve ever used, all the other VPNs demand money for bad connections, but Planet is free, has no time limit and has a great connection. Would reccomend to everyone who needs a free and fast VPN.”

    2. Surfshark

Surfshark is a budget-friendly VPN provider in Zurich that’s ideal for families or small groups needing unlimited devices. They ensure online security with over 3,200 servers across countries worldwide.

They stand out with advanced tools such as CleanWeb (ad blocker), MultiHop (double VPN), and Camouflage mode. Camouflage disguises your VPN traffic to make it look like normal internet activity and avoid detection.

Also, there’s GPS spoofing, split tunnelling, and dedicated IPs that ensure encryption and security for all users. These give users anonymity and stable access for remote work, like banking or secure logins.

A friend tried their services and discovered the Surfshark One ecosystem. It’s an all-in-one cybersecurity bundle that protects users’ privacy, device security, and personal data. It includes Surfshark VPN, Antivirus, Alert, Search, and Incogni.

However, some users have noted occasional connection drops in regions with network restrictions. And compared to other providers, Surfshark doesn’t offer port forwarding or detailed protocol tweaks (only for advanced users).

    Pros

    • Has 3,200 servers worldwide
    • Uses CleanWeb, MultiHop, and Camouflage mode
    • Offers a GPS spoofing and split-tunnelling
    • Has Surfshark One ecosystem for cybersecurity

    Cons

    • Occasional connection drops
    • No port forwarding
    • No detailed protocol tweaks

A game-changer for privacy and streaming

“I’ve been using Surfshark VPN for a while now, and I absolutely love it. It’s incredibly easy to set up and use, even for someone who isn’t super tech-savvy. It does exactly what it promises—keeps me private and secure online, without slowing down my connection. One of the best features for me is the ability to access content from different regions. As a movie fanatic, being able to watch Netflix and other streaming platforms from various countries has completely changed the game. It’s opened up a whole new world of entertainment that I never had access to before. If you’re looking for a reliable, user-friendly VPN that delivers on privacy and streaming power, I highly recommend Surfshark. I’m more than satisfied with it and definitely plan to renew for years to come.”

      Comprehensive and easy to use

“Comprehensive, easy to use, good value for money and effective.”

      3. NordVPN

A friend of mine highly recommends NordVPN for remote work, and I can see why. When I visited their website, I saw that they offer top-tier security with AES-256 encryption and privacy protocols.

These include high-speed NordLynx (based on WireGuard), OpenVPN, IKEv2/IPSec, and the new NordWhisper. These features help bypass network restrictions wherever you’re staying.

Additionally, NordVPN features RAM-only servers, private DNS, and Onion Over VPN to enhance both privacy and access for all users. They have a Perfect Forward Secrecy feature along with a “no logs” policy.

Based on reviews I’ve seen online, many commended the Threat Protection Pro, which works even when the VPN is off. It blocks ads, malware, and tracks if your data reaches the dark web. The Meshnet feature also caught my eye — great for remote collaborations.

However, some users mentioned in their feedback that the auto-renewal policy is somewhat unclear. Prices increase after the first term, so this is something to be aware of.

      Pros

      • Uses AES-256, NordLynx, and NordWhisper
      • RAM-only servers, private DNS, and Onion Over VPN
      • Perfect Forward Secrecy plus a “no logs” policy
      • Uses Threat Protection Pro for blocking ads

      Cons

      • Unclear auto-renewal policy

        Top VPN for speed

“Very smooth and reliable experience. Easy to use, secure, and with plenty of servers for any location I need. I really like the wide variety of server locations and how easy the interface is to use. The app is intuitive, fast, and makes connecting to a secure server effortless, even for non-technical users.”

        Quick and effective response

“The team’s response was quick, easy to follow, and resulted in solving the problem I was having.”

        4. ExpressVPN

        Instagram

ExpressVPN boasts its Lightway protocol, which, according to their website, offers “fast, efficient, secure connections.” To stay up-to-date, they also offer an auto-update feature for their users.

I tried using their service, and it allowed me to stream Netflix and Disney+ on my devices without requiring native VPN support. It’s all thanks to the MediaStreamer, which lets you access geo-blocked content on smart TVs and consoles.

More notable features include the Threat Manager for ad blocking, tracking, and malware at the DNS level. They have a Network Lock kill switch plus split tunnelling that provides extra control and security for your devices.

It adds an extra layer of safety, especially when using public Wi-Fi or handling sensitive tasks online. I enabled it by default on desktop applications, and it worked smoothly — I never noticed a glitch.

On the other hand, ExpressVPN is more expensive than other VPN providers. They also don’t have multi-hop or port forwarding, as some users would expect.

        Pros

        • Uses Lightway Protocol
        • Allows streaming without native VPN support
        • Features a Threat Manager for malware and blocking
        • Features a Network Lock kill switch

        Cons

        • More expensive than other providers
        • Doesn’t have a multi-hop or port forwarding

The best VPN on the market

“Much better than any other VPN. Easy to install and use. No lag issues with PC during use. Easy to disconnect. No malware or begging messages for upgrades or other services. Easy to install and connect or disconnect. Just does as it is told. Choice of locations is really good and works first time every time. Nothing really to dislike. It works so quietly and efficiently.”

This company is the best VPN service

“This company is the best VPN service ever. Always fast to respond to any issues and super helpful. Well worth the subscription. I highly recommend them.”

          5. SwissVPN

          swissvpn

          Contact Details: [email protected]

          Website

SwissVPN is a Swiss-based VPN that values strong encryption and legal privacy protections. They use programmes such as OpenVPN, IPSec, SSTP, and PPTP. All these ensure encrypted internet access, which is ideal for use on public Wi-Fi.

A friend and I signed up for their standard working plan during a stay in Zurich West. We had consistent connectivity at a reliable speed even with multiple users. Connection speeds are 15 Mbps on basic plans, with speeds of up to 30 Mbps available with “speed boosts”.

They also offer unlimited data, DNS leak protection, and firewall features for an additional purchase.

SwissVPN is even compatible with Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS. Even better, they work on routers, which is ideal if you want to encrypt multiple devices simultaneously. But, of course, extra fees apply for this kind of setup.

It’s just a bit disappointing that they don’t have live chat support — only email-based conversations are available. It also meant no ticketing system and real-time replies. It also lacked a kill switch and stores minimal data from logs for maintenance.

          Pros

          • Uses OpenVPN, SSTP, PPTP
          • Consistent connectivity and internet reliability
          • Offers “speed boosts” up to 30 Mbps
          • Has unlimited data and DNS leak protection
          • Can encrypt multiple devices at a time

          Cons

          • No live chat support
          • No ticketing system
          • No kill switch
          • Stores data from logs

            Very good VPN service

“Very good VPN service, pretty and easy to use app, the developer is also very reactive in solving problems. Also when travelling to China it worked like a charm! For me the best companion on all Apple devices including Apple TV.”

Ensures optimal speeds so I can focus on my tasks

“This VPN is insanely fast – I consistently get my full internet speeds no matter what server I’m connected to. Websites load instantly and videos stream buttery smooth, even in HD or 4K. It’s like not even using a VPN at all! As someone who spends lots of time online, SwizzVPN ensures optimal speeds so I can focus on my tasks and entertainment without lag. What I also love is how easy SwizzVPN makes it to access geoblocked content. By simply selecting the matching server location, I gain access to all kinds of movies, shows, genres and channels that aren’t available domestically. It’s awesome being able to hop around 90 countries on a whim and expand my watchlist without region restrictions. No other VPN breaks down barriers quite like SwizzVPN.”
