How to spend a perfect day in Zurich’s Europaallee (local hacks included!)
You know how it goes—whenever friends or cousins pop down for a visit, they expect Zurich to be all medieval towers and fondue. Yet, as a local, some of my favourite moments happen in the city’s more unexpected corners.
Take Europaallee, for example. When I’m playing tour guide, this lively district is always on my list, partly because it’s right next to the main station (so nobody gets lost) and partly because, frankly, it’s where Zurich shows off its modern flair.
So, if you’re keen for more than chocolate and postcard views, join me as we dive into Europaallee’s culture, cuisine and unexpected delights.

Where is Europaallee?
Europaallee is in central Zurich, just west of the main train station Zurich Hauptbahnhof. It stretches from Lagerstrasse to Zollstrasse, running parallel to the train tracks. The district is bordered by Sihlquai on one edge and Gustav-Gull-Platz on the other.
What is the main landmark in Europaallee?
The main landmark in Europaallee is the Sihlpost building. It sits right at the entrance to Europaallee by Zurich’s main train station, and it’s pretty much the first thing you notice when you head into the neighbourhood.
How to get to Europaallee
By Foot: If you’re already in central Zurich, head toward the main train station Zurich Hauptbahnhof, and you’ll find Europaallee right on its southern side. It’s a short stroll from the Bahnhofstrasse or anywhere downtown.
By Tram: Several tram lines stop right near Europaallee. Lines 3, 14, and 17 all stop at Sihlpost/Bahnhofquai, which is basically at the entrance to Europaallee. Once you hop off the tram, the street and its shops are just seconds away.
By Train: All main intercity and regional trains arrive at Zurich Hauptbahnhof. From the station, follow the signs towards Europaallee, look for Sihlpost as well, and you’ll walk straight into the neighbourhood—it’s really that close.
By Car: Set your GPS to Europaallee, 8004 Zurich. There are underground parking garages in the area, especially at the Sihlpost building and Europaallee Passage. Just keep in mind that city traffic can be busy, and parking spaces often fill up during peak hours.
By Bike: Europaallee has designated bike parking spots near the Sihlpost building, Europaallee Passage, and Zurich Hauptbahnhof. You can easily reach these areas via Zurich’s bike paths.

Europaallee is one of my favourite places to hang out in Zurich, just steps from the main train station.
When I stroll down the boulevard, I always spot people shopping at stylish boutiques or sipping coffee outside cosy cafés. There’s so much energy here, and the colourful street art makes the area feel bright and welcoming.
It’s fun wandering between market stalls, where you can pick up handmade crafts or flip through stacks of old books. I usually find a comfy bench and do a bit of people-watching.

CreativeSpace is a friendly, open studio that hosts a variety of hands-on workshops you can take part in. If painting, pottery, photography, or crafts pique your interest, you’ll find plenty of options to choose from.
No experience is needed. Everyone’s welcome, and the teachers are fantastic at helping newcomers settle in. The studio itself is modern and cosy, making it easy to feel comfortable and focus on getting creative.
Each workshop has a relaxed, social vibe, with people chatting, sharing tips, and making art together. All materials are provided, so you don’t have to worry about bringing anything along.

If you love checking out local art, Galerie Stephan Witschi is genuinely one of my favourite spots in Zürich. This gallery is known for showcasing artists with a unique perspective.
They often highlight daring and humorous contemporary Swiss art. For example, past exhibitions have included witty installations from artist Raffael Karrer and vibrant, unusual pieces by Dominic Michel.
If you wander in while an exhibition is on, make sure to pay attention to the themes. You might see work exploring Zürich’s urban culture or something more experimental, like kinetic installations.
The gallery’s calendar changes often, so there’s always a new perspective or artist to discover. Sometimes, you might even get lucky and meet artists like Yves Netzhammer at an opening.

Bridge is my go-to whenever I’m in the mood for something tasty and a little out of the ordinary. It’s way more than your average food court, actually. It’s a friendly place where you’ll find everyone from students to families.
Most of the time, I can’t resist ordering the bridge burger. It’s juicy, cheesy, and always hits the spot. But if I’m after something lighter, I’ll change things up with a colourful poké bowl from Wood Food or grab a fresh bowl of pasta from Pasta Mercato.
And don’t forget about dessert! John Baker’s croissants are buttery and flaky. If you’re a sweet tooth like me, Leonardo’s gelato is a must.

Pasta Mercato Bridge is a top spot for anyone who loves fresh pasta done right. Everything happens right in front of you—watch the chefs roll, shape, and cook each pasta batch to order.
The whole place feels friendly and laid-back, perfect for a quick lunch on your own or a fun catch-up with friends. There’s plenty of space, both inside and outside, so you can always grab a comfy spot.
Now for the main event—the food! You get to choose your favourite pasta shape, like spaghetti, penne, or tagliatelle. You can even top it with classic sauces such as creamy Carbonara, rich Bolognese, or fresh Pomodoro.
If you don’t eat meat, no worries, because there are tasty vegetarian options like pasta with tomato-basil Pomodoro or creamy pesto. Gluten-free pasta is also available, so those with dietary restrictions don’t have to miss out.

Via Del Gusto 28 is where you’ll find those sunny Mediterranean vibes paired with loads of delicious Italian favourites.
Their Pizza Margherita is a classic that I can never resist, piled high with creamy mozzarella and the freshest basil. When I’m up for a little adventure, the Diavola brings just the right amount of heat.
And honestly, the pasta menu is a star in its own right. I keep going back for the Lasagna al Forno—so cheesy, so comforting. The Penne Arrabbiata has just enough of a spicy kick to keep things interesting.
If you’re after something lighter, their Caprese salad is my go-to: bursting with sweet tomatoes, silky buffalo mozzarella, and plenty of fragrant basil. And always make sure to order a round of antipasti to share.

If you love classic shoes and gorgeous leather accessories as much as I do, Oxblood Zürich is a must-visit.
The shelves are packed with beautifully made brogues, Chelsea boots, and super clean-looking sneakers. Every pair is crafted from top-notch European leather that just gets better with time.
And don’t even get me started on their bags. The weekenders and briefcases are the kind you’ll want to show off, while the cardholders make everyday life feel extra classy.

If you want somewhere fun and a bit different to stay, 25hours Hotel Zürich Langstrasse could be just right. It’s in a lively part of town, with loads of bars, little cafés, and colourful street art nearby, so you’re never short of things to do or see.
The rooms are comfortable and have things you actually use, like speedy Wi-Fi, decent speakers, and big showers. If you’re into music, some rooms even have vinyl records you can play.

B2 Hotel Zürich really is something special. Housed in an old brewery, the building itself has heaps of character you don’t find everywhere, with huge windows and high ceilings that let in plenty of light.
My favourite spot has to be the library lounge. There are thousands of books stacked from floor to ceiling and soft sofas everywhere. It has this lovely, calm energy that makes you want to stay all afternoon; I always end up losing track of time in there.
The guest rooms are cosy yet modern, featuring large beds, stylish details, and handy touches such as a coffee machine and soft robes. People often talk about the bathrooms, especially the lovely rain showers and quality toiletries.
One of the best things here is the rooftop thermal baths, where you can soak in warm water while looking out over Zürich’s rooftops. Breakfast is a real treat too, offering bakery breads, pastries, cold cuts, plus muesli, fruit, and smoothies.
