Oriental delicacies with the top 10 dim sum restaurants in Zurich

I’ve always loved dim sum. It’s convenient and comforting. It offers so much variety compared to other types of Chinese food.

Luckily, I didn’t have to fly all the way to China to enjoy authentic flavours. Zurich has some fantastic dim sum spots that serve everything from classic dumplings to more adventurous bites like chicken feet (my personal favourite).

After years of exploring the city’s best dim sum spots, I figured… why not share them with you? Trust me, these places have all the variety you’ll love just as much as I do.

1. Dumpling Delights

Contact Details: +41 77 940 12 28

Operating Hours:

  • Monday, Saturday: 5:30 AM to 10:00 PM
  • Tuesday to Friday: 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM | 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM

Pricing: ₣₣

Dumpling Delights serves some great Taiwanese dim sum. The unique flavours that they offer are sweeter compared to their bolder Chinese cousins. I also can’t get enough of the unique shapes and fillings that they come with.

This spot has a great selection of dim sum that I simply can’t get enough of. Personally, I go for the shrimp siu mai and the sakura shrimp dumpling that looks like beautiful cherry blossom petals.

Aside from these, I also like to order a nice plate of fried seasonal vegetables that are sweet and savoury. For something light, I go for silky mapo tofu.

Pro Tip:
Rather than going for a cold dessert like the green mango sorbet, I highly suggest trying out a custard or coconut bun. These have a creamy and gooey centre that has the right amount of sweetness, and the coconut one is vegan.

2. Wesley’s Kitchen

At Wesley’s Kitchen, art and food collide to make wonderful things. Wesley, the owner, puts a lot of effort into his dishes to introduce Zurich to the many cultures and cuisines that he loves. Their dishes are innovative but still have the heart of Chinese tradition.

What I love about Wesley’s Kitchen is its extensive list of dim sum. They have all the classics like pork and chicken rice chao may. There are also vegan options like the mushroom rice shao may.

While it isn’t traditionally Chinese, I love their sunrise salmon. It’s a salmon carpaccio served with a poached egg and rice. It’s the right amount of creamy with the egg and has a hint of umami with the salmon.

Pro Tip:
If you enjoy Wesley’s and want a more buffet-style experience, they have a sister restaurant called Restaurant Josefstrasse. It serves some of the same dishes as Wesley’s… all unlimited for lunch and dinner.

3. Lily’s

  • Saturday to Sunday: 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Pricing: ₣₣₣

Established in 1999, Lily’s has been offering Asian cuisine to Zurich’s citizens as a healthier alternative to typical Chinese cuisine. They offer simplicity in their dining experience. Their decor is simple, with wood and muted colours for furniture.

The main reason I frequent this place is for the tea culture. Their servers highly suggest sipping on some nice tea to balance it all out. My favourites are the white camellia sinensis with earthy notes and the classic oolong tea.

When it comes to dim sum, I go for their spring rolls, which are crispy and come with a sweet and sour dip. There’s also the Busan tofu gyoza and Seoul BBQ gyoza that aren’t traditional but are quite flavourful.

Pro Tip:
For those who love the food at Lily’s and want their friends or family to experience their unique Asian dishes, go for the catering service. It can feed up to 20 people, and you can pick and choose the dishes.

  • Sunday: 12:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Pricing: ₣₣₣

Hongxi offers a classic take on Chinese cuisine that I certainly couldn’t find anywhere else. Drawing from the diversity of China’s rich food culture, they combine seasonal ingredients and traditional recipes to create masterpieces.

What’s great about Hongxi is that they offer quite a few different vegetarian options. You cannot stop me from eating their stir-fried eggplant because it’s so great. I also love their crispy vegetable tempura.

For the dim sum, I always go for the steamed spinach and corn dumplings due to their simple flavours and lightness. There are also the flavourful duck spring rolls that are incredibly rich. Lastly, I could never resist a good and traditional pork xiao long bao.

Pro Tip:
Before heading to Hongxi, I highly suggest looking through their website first. They offer vouchers and discounts randomly throughout each month. The additional savings can easily turn into an additional plate of dim sum.

5. Lotus Garden

  • Sunday: 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM | 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM

Pricing: ₣₣

Lotus Garden is a small and cosy restaurant that hosts some of the best Szechuan cuisine in Zurich. The restaurant features a classic wood and bamboo decor with Chinese murals that make you feel like you’re dining in the emperor’s palace.

Trust me when I say spiced pig’s ear is one of the best dishes here. It has a wonderfully chewy texture that has notes of star anise and a lot of Szechuan peppercorn.

For those looking for a tamer option, go for the mini spring rolls. They serve Chinese classics like xiao long bao and some nice har gow. I also love the Szechuan soup because it’s quite spicy.

Pro Tip:
For those who want to eat here but are in a rush, Lotus Garden has an option to create a bento box for yourself. While it isn’t necessarily Chinese, you can pack it with a variety of dim sum and some of their tasty meat or seafood dishes.

6. House of Ren

Website: https://houseofren.ch

Address: Tessinerpl. 12, 8002

Contact Details: +41 44 202 09 33

Operating Hours:

  • Monday to Thursday: 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM
  • Friday: 9:00 AM to 10:30 PM
  • Saturday: 10:00 AM to 10:30 PM
  • Sunday: 10:00 AM to 10:00 PM

Pricing: ₣₣

House of Ren has a more modern take on Chinese cuisine. I love the decor of this place, especially the hanging plants above the table. It gives the restaurant a nice and open ambience.

Before ordering dim sum, I always start with yu mi tang, a corn and chicken soup that’s warm and mildly sweet. If it’s cold out, I’d much prefer the sup ga-yom ka gai. It’s a spicy Thai soup with chicken and mushrooms.

It’s the bao bun edamame that always gets me to go back. It’s a spinach and edamame bun that’s seasoned with sweet soy sauce and miso. I also like the House of Ren dim sum platter, which includes 10 pieces of dim sum, such as xiao long bao or shao mai.

Pro Tip:
When coming here with a partner or a friend, rather than going for the dim sum, I much prefer to order the whole Peking duck. It’s good for two people and comes with three courses, all of which incorporate the whole duck.

7. Tasty Haus

  • Monday to Friday: 11:00 PM to 2:00 PM | 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM
  • Saturday: 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Pricing: ₣₣

When looking for a takeaway place, I suggest heading to Tasty Haus. This is one of my favourite places to order takeout because they offer a wonderful 10% discount for picking up the meal yourself.

For the appetiser, I like the deep-fried curry pockets (cute dumplings with spicy curry inside them). Whenever I want something tamer, I always get the chive dumplings.

For a more filling order, go for the cong you bing. It’s a scallion pancake with a crispy and flaky exterior and a chewy inside.

Pro Tip:
Tasty Haus is also a great place to have a birthday party or a small get-together. They have a small venue that’s perfect for having a fun time while enjoying some of their tastiest dishes at a group-friendly reduced cost.

8. Konshi

Website: https://konshi.ch

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/KonshiZurich

Address: Uraniastrasse 3, 8001

Contact Details: +41 44 225 11 88

Operating Hours:

  • Monday, Wednesday to Saturday: 11:30 PM to 9:30 PM
  • Sunday: 11:30 AM to 9:00 PM

Pricing: ₣₣

Konshi combines Japanese and Chinese cuisines, blending the two to create a unique flavour profile. Aside from the tasty dim sum, they also have a great selection of Japanese dishes, such as sushi and Japanese gyoza.

Some classic dim sum that I order when going here are the xiao long bao and the steamed siu mai with chicken. I also quite like their mixed dim sum option, perfect for sharing between two.

For the vegans out there, there’s an entire section of the menu dedicated to you. Some highlights are the fried udon noodles in Hong Kong-style sauce and the spicy tofu kung-pao.

Pro Tip:
Konshi can be a bit tricky to find since it’s inside a parking garage. Look for the ramp beside the car entrance… that’s where the restaurant is.

9. Royal Panda

Website: https://www.royal-panda.ch

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100085892026448

Address: Eingang Zollikerstrasse 1, Forchstrasse 2, 800

Contact Details: +41 76 520 66 66

Operating Hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM | 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM
  • Saturday: 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM | 5:30 PM to 10:00 PM
  • Sunday: 5:30 AM to 10:00 PM

Pricing: ₣₣

Royal Panda is where I head whenever I want a filling meal. The main attraction for me has to be their lunchtime buffet. You pay either per plate or for an all-you-can-eat option, and you can even get take-away.

Their steamed dumpling option is extensive (pork, shrimp, and beef). There’s even an option for duck meat.

For a fan favourite, there’s also the xiao long bao. When looking for something more filling, the cha sha bao is the best. It consists of steamed pork buns filled with tender pork and an oriental style sauce.

Pro Tip:
If you want enough food to last for a week, then I’d suggest ordering their take-away option during the lunch buffet. It comes in either small or large, and has enough food that’s more than one or two people.

10. LÈ Cuisine

Media credit: LÈ Cuisine Instagram

Website: https://www.lecuisine.ch

Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Lecuisine.ch

Address: Neugasse 41, 8005

Contact Details: +41 78 732 26 60

Operating Hours:

  • Monday to Sunday: 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM | 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Pricing: ₣₣

When stepping into LÈ Cuisine, you won’t think that they serve Chinese dishes. The decor of the restaurant might lead you to think of more Western dishes.

What I also find interesting about LÈ Cuisine is that their menu is seasonal. Their menus specialise in Chinese classics made with local ingredients. Some highlights are the braised beef brisket and the Shanghai scallion noodle.

Their dim sum list has the usual suspects, but it is uniquely crafted.

Pro Tip:
Before heading to LÈ Cuisine, I highly suggest looking into their website first or calling them beforehand to ask about the menu. Some dishes, like the dumplings, are available year-round, but others might not be, so please call to check.
