1. Sonne Montessori Kindergarten

Address: Winkelriedstrasse 4, 8006
Contact Details: +41 44 361 15 72
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Friday: 7:15 AM – 6:15 PM
Sonne Montessori Kindergarten provides a nurturing bilingual learning environment for children aged 2½ years through to school entry, combining authentic Montessori principles with a thoughtfully structured daily routine. The school focuses on helping children develop independence, curiosity, and confidence through hands-on learning and self-guided exploration.
Parents particularly appreciate the German–English bilingual setting, which allows children to naturally develop language skills while engaging in Montessori activities designed to encourage concentration, creativity, and problem solving at an early age. Small group sizes further support individualized attention, ensuring each child receives focused guidance while maintaining a warm and supportive classroom environment.
One of the standout features is the school’s all-day care programme, running from 7:15 AM to 6:15 PM, offering flexible block times that support working families while maintaining a consistent and well-balanced daily rhythm for the children. Personalized transitions are also a priority, with individual settling-in periods tailored to each child to help them adjust comfortably to the new environment.
Beyond the core classroom experience, the kindergarten enriches learning through semester programmes led by experienced instructors. Children can participate in activities such as ice skating, swimming, dance, art and theatre, and yoga, while also benefiting from daily physical activity, including up to two hours in the gymnasium (Turnhalle), supporting healthy movement and development.
Nutrition is another important focus at the kindergarten. Children are provided with organic (Bio) meals that are freshly prepared each day, promoting healthy eating habits and supporting overall well-being.
Class sizes are intentionally kept small to maintain high-quality care and individualized support from qualified Montessori educators. Because of this personalized approach and limited availability of places, early registration is strongly recommended.
The staff was very engaged and focused
“Both our sons attended the Montessori Kindergarten starting even before age of 3. They were take care of really well, developed tremendously there and enjoyed going there every day. Staff was very engaged and focused. Kindergarten is quite small and this allows individual focus on every child. I can recommend Sanela and her services.”

I really appreciated the strong sense of community
“It’s our son’s last day at Kindergarten Montessori Sonne, and he’s sad to leave. He has spent nearly three years there—two in kindergarten and some time in preschool—and he was always excited to go. He loved the wonderful teachers and all the cool activities they did at school. At home, he was eager to recreate and talk about what he had learned. As a parent, I really appreciated the strong sense of community and the loving, nurturing environment the teachers provided. I’m especially happy with Sanela’s and the kindergarten’s focus on developing well-rounded little humans. Our son is definitely ready for school! Luckily, our daughter—who has been going there to preschool since she was 2—will soon start kindergarten, so we’re excited to continue being part of this great school for a few more years.”

2. KiddieLand

Operating Hours:

KiddieLand presents itself as a thoughtfully structured daycare in Zurich, particularly suited to internationally minded families seeking both strong local integration and a modern educational environment. The center balances familiarity with the Swiss system and a forward-looking approach to early childhood development, making it a practical choice for families planning a long-term transition into local schooling.
One of its core strengths is the clear alignment with Switzerland’s national education framework. The KiGa program follows Lehrplan 21, supporting children’s development in language, independence, social interaction, and critical thinking while preparing them for a smooth transition into the Swiss school system. For families prioritizing German language acquisition and educational continuity, this structured foundation can be especially valuable.
At the same time, KiddieLand incorporates progressive educational influences that encourage active participation and curiosity. Elements inspired by the HighScope and Reggio Emilia approaches place emphasis on child-led exploration, decision-making, and reflective learning, supported by thoughtfully designed learning spaces and materials that encourage creativity and engagement.
Quality assurance is another notable feature of the center. KiddieLand holds QualiKita certification, an independently verified standard that evaluates pedagogy, care practices, and organizational quality. This credential provides families with additional confidence in the consistency and professionalism of the daycare’s operations.
The nutrition program also reflects a strong focus on daily wellbeing. Meals are prepared on-site by an in-house chef using high-quality, organic ingredients, supporting healthy routines and reducing the need for parents to manage meal planning during busy workweeks.
From a practical standpoint, the daycare offers an all-inclusive structure that simplifies daily logistics for working families. Supplies, meals, and essential materials are provided as part of the program, helping reduce administrative tasks and creating a more predictable routine for both parents and children.
KiddieLand is family-owned, which contributes to a warm and personal atmosphere while maintaining a professional and organized environment. The use of digital communication tools supports transparency and efficient updates for parents without disrupting the children’s daily learning experience.
One balanced consideration is the building’s exterior, which may appear modest at first glance compared to newer facilities. However, the interior environment is modern, bright, and carefully arranged to support learning and comfort, aligning closely with the center’s educational philosophy.
Overall, KiddieLand offers a well-rounded combination of structured learning, creative exploration, and practical family support. Its blend of local educational alignment and internationally informed pedagogy makes it a strong option for families in Zurich seeking a reliable, engaging, and development-focused childcare setting.
The teachers and assistants are always friendly and very caring to the children
“We know our little one is in the best hands there. We get regular updates on developments and photos, but the best is we can clearly see the expression of joy when we go there. The teachers and assistants are always friendly and very caring to the children, assisting them, teaching them important skills for their developmental phases, and nurturing their curiosity. The food is excellent, the kids get to enjoy both the special rooms and the outdoors, they get to learn both English and German right from the start. And the schedule is easy for full-time working parents.”

They keep the children engaged with lots of activities
“I’ve been really happy with Kiddieland daycare! The teachers are all incredibly friendly, helpful, and well-prepared. They keep the kids engaged with lots of activities and frequently take them out to the river and nearby playgrounds, which my child loves. The small garden they have is a nice touch too. The food provided is great, and the central location is very convenient. I also love that they use an app to send multiple photos of the kids throughout the day—it’s such a cool way for parents to stay connected. Overall, I can only recommend Kiddieland!”

3. Children First

Address: Freiestrasse 175, 8032
Contact Details: +41 44 252 91 21
Operating Hours:
- 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM
Children First is a school that blends Montessori-inspired exploration with the UK’s Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). It emphasises holistic development so that kids don’t just memorise numbers or letters – they learn communication and manage emotions.
Another standout feature is their forest kindergarten mornings. They do this once a week, where kids ride the Dolder cogwheel and have fun in the woods. The school ensures that these breaks from the indoor routine are taken to encourage growth.
Another thing I observed was how seriously they take communicating with the parents. They submit detailed six-month reports and secure meetings via their app for a more organised approach.
However, due to the personalised teaching style and low teacher-to-child ratios, they often have waitlists. Enrollees may or may not have a slot secured due to the large number of applicants.
The quality of the teachers is the best I have seen in the city of Zürich
“My toddler has been attending CF for 1.5 yrs (since he was 11 months old) and I could not be happier with the service, care and attention the school provides. The teachers are actually qualified teachers, the support goes beyond daycare services, they have a true independent teaching concept and the teachers genuinely become secondary guardians for children. The quality of the teachers is the best I have seen in the city of Zürich. They have their own outdoor space, which I thought wouldn’t make a big impact but it really does. Our child likes to be outside, come rain, sun or snow, and he is able to do so, in the safe environment of the krippe. The Krippe has become a safe space for us as parents and our son, and the teachers are very collaborative and open to hearing about improvements /parents concerns and any issues.”

4. Kita Regenbogen

Address: Josefstrasse 212, 8005
Contact Details: +41 44 440 01 80
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Friday: 7:00 AM – 8:30 PM
I visited Kita Regenbogen with a friend who’s looking for a school for her daughter. They work with children of mixed ages, ranging from 3 months to 5 years old. This setup is like one big happy family for the students.
The staff employs a bilingual approach (German and English), enabling students to become fluent in both languages.
I appreciate that their curriculum is based on a combination of free play and structured activities, including storytime, sensory projects, and outdoor adventures.
One standout feature is their developmental psychological counselling, which supports early attachment experiences. I value the idea of the bond between children and their caregivers, which has a positive impact on each child’s skills and needs.
The only downside, according to some parents, is the lack of Montessori programmes. Families seeking a more specific educational approach may find the curriculum too general or not specialised enough.
The programme is designed to cater to the children’s individual needs
“The Regenbogen daycare center was a very special experience for my son and for us as a family. The program is designed to cater to the children’s individual needs. My son was able to choose his own activities every day and was constantly included. His ideas were taken seriously and implemented as best as possible. There were also always great activities for the whole family that everyone enjoyed. We found the care to be sensational. I highly recommend this daycare center.”

Our children always enjoyed going, and we always had a very good feeling
“We have had our two girls looked after in daycare for the last 6 years and are very satisfied. Very well thought out concept with its own kitchen and chef and very friendly, empathetic and patient staff. Our children always enjoyed going and we always had a very good feeling. We are happy to recommend this daycare center with a clear conscience. A huge thank you to the great team and all the best for the future”

5. Montessori Kinderhaus (Montessori Children’s House)

Address: Krönleinstrasse 1, 8044
Contact Details: +41 44 261 43 53
Operating Hours:
- Monday to Friday: 7:15 AM – 6:15 PM
Founded in 1996, Montessori Kinderhaus blends AMS-certified Montessori pedagogy with Canton’s curriculum. They create a learning environment that’s both structured and warm, catering to children from 18 months to 6 years.
I noticed how children were given hands-on activities, self-directed work, and a calm pace that encourages them to focus and think for themselves. They adapt the Montessori principles, which build independence and a sense of order.
While instruction is primarily in German, kids have a steady exposure to English during the week. It’s not a pressured bilingual setup, but more of a natural language usage. I see that kids learn both languages without much effort.
However, some parents look for more structured enrichment in music, sports, or language classes. Since the school’s core is centred on Montessori-based work, the curriculum may feel limited to those seeking broader extracurriculars.
A little paradise for children
“We are very grateful to Tatjana and Fabia and the entire children’s home team for the almost three years in which they have accompanied and supported our son with a lot of passion and commitment. We think: The Montessori children’s house is a little paradise for children and an optimal start to (school) life.”

A very positive learning and play place for young children
“I visited this kindergarten as a student to get to know the structure of a Montessori kindergarten. I received a very warm welcome and everything was explained to me in detail. I perceived the kindergarten as a very positive learning and play place for young children and Tatjana as an incredibly warm-hearted and committed person. I can only recommend him to everyone!”
