Experience clear vision with the 5 best optometrists in Zurich
We used to think squinting at signs and pretending to know who was waving at us was just part of getting older. One friend even walked up confidently to greet who he thought was his cousin, only to find out it was a stranger.
Not long after, we booked an appointment with an optometrist in Zurich. The moment we tried on our new glasses, it felt like stepping into high-definition reality. Suddenly, street signs were visible, and faces looked familiar again.
Walking out of the clinic, we couldn’t stop joking about how we had been living in “blurry mode” for years. It was about regaining confidence and fully enjoying the world in all its sharpness.
How much does an optometrist charge in Zurich?
Optometrists in Zurich usually charge between CHF 40 and CHF 120 for a standard eye examination, with prices varying by clinic and the technology used. Additional services, such as contact lens fitting or specialised vision tests, may cost extra.

Detailed and professional eye examination
“Buying glasses in this place is one of a kind experience. Literally every single person we interacted with was very kind and helpful.
Two things I want to particularly highlight:
1. Eye check – I never had a chance to participate in such a detailed and professional eye examination and selection of corrective lenses (even when visiting a doctor).
2. Choosing the right frames – the support we got from Wiktoria for selecting the best fitting frames was exceptional. It was just the right balance of professional advice without being too obtrusive.
We can’t wait for our glasses now! I highly recommend the place.

Went above and beyond for satisfaction
“The perfect service. I went to Zeiss after a very bad experience with my previous glasses with another optician. Marco took an incredible amount of time to make sure he got my prescription right. He went above and beyond for my satisfaction.
I also enjoyed that Marco explains clearly why such a lens is better or worse or why he thinks the decision he makes is beneficial for you. He also explains so you can understand what you actually feel. Marco also recommends very well the style (frame) of glasses you should wear. This was my first time in Zeiss and I will be going again.”

2. Gautschi Optik AG

Address: Uraniastrasse 7, 8001
Contact Details: +41442211530
Business Hours:
- Monday to Friday: 8:30 AM – 6:30 PM
- Saturday: 9:30 AM – 5 PM
Gautschi Optik AG has been around since 1878, making it one of Switzerland’s oldest family-owned optical boutiques. The Zurich branch on Uraniastrasse 7 keeps that legacy alive with a cosy boutique setup and modern testing technology.
Their eyewear stands out for its use of natural horn, wood, and even leather, giving each frame a one-of-a-kind look. Eye exams are done with great precision too. It’s clear that the team values quality and comfort during every session.
They also offer a convenient express Swiss-made lens service, ideal if you need glasses fast. The contact lens plan is worth noting, covering lost lenses, regular comfort checks, and home delivery. All of these make maintenance easy.
The only downside is that prices can lean higher than what you’d find at chain stores. There aren’t big discount promos here either, since the focus is on craftsmanship.
Nonetheless, they make up for it by offering a frame-colour coating with a 2-year warranty against damage caused by wear and tear.
Welcoming, warm, and amazing
“Stephan and his entire staff are so very welcoming, warm and amazing. I was very amazed with his calmness when I walked in fretting and wondering if my broken frames could be repaired. He reassured, calmed me down, took away my glasses and returned within a short time with a repaired glasses. The surprise? He declined to accept any payment for all this work. Certainly a first in Zurich in my opinion and I could not stop thanking him. Great guy and I recommend him highly!!!”

Staff are very welcoming and professional

3. Sehzentrum Zürich

Address: Brandschenkestrasse 150, 8002
Contact Details: +41442805050
Business Hours:
- Tuesday to Friday: 9 AM – 1:30 PM and 2:30 PM – 6 PM
- Saturday: 9 AM – 5 PM
Sehzentrum Zürich has been around since 2005 and has two branches in the city: Hürlimann Areal and Kreuzplatz. Both have a calm, clinical vibe that makes the experience feel professional yet comfortable from the moment you step in.
They use the DNEye 3D eye scanner from Rodenstock to create biometric lenses that fit the unique shape of your eyes. This level of precision sets them apart from many other optical centres in Zürich.
However, the process takes longer than usual, and custom or progressive lenses might require a short adjustment period. It’s something to keep in mind if you prefer quicker visits.
Regardless, they also offer visual training that combines optometry, osteopathy, and physiotherapy. This is perfect for anyone who experiences eye strain or focus issues from screen-heavy work.
Their “Frequentlens Abo” subscription for contact lens wearers is a nice touch too. It covers replacements, check-ups, and home delivery. It shows how they’ve streamlined long-term eye care into something convenient.
Patient and price are reasonably fair
“I was traveling to Zurich on business and midway through it my titanium frame just snapped. This place is next door from work so I stepped in to see if we could do something about it. Note that my lenses are special enough that I can’t just get a brand new pair done in a day. The only viable option was to find a similar frame and reuse the lenses from my broken pair. I worked with Manuela who very patiently combed through their stock – eventually, we found one that was a close fit. Bonus – It happened to be reasonably priced too. My glasses were ready in about an hour after I first walked in ! I would give them 6 stars if I could :)”

Absolute lifesavers
“Was visiting Zurich in August and I ended up damaging the mental frame of my glasses. I called into Muller Optik, a few hours before I had to head to the airport to catch a flight. I don’t like flying using contact lenses. I was hoping that Muller Optik would be able to fix my glasses but I knew I had given them barely any notice. They graciously fixed my glasses in a few minutes and for free of charge. I am so grateful to the lovely staff and I would highly recommend this business. Absolute lifesavers, thank you.”

5. Patschifig Optica

Address: Bederstrasse 97, 8002
Contact Details: +41442024265
Business Hours:
- Tuesday to Friday: 10 AM – 6 PM
- Saturday: 10 AM – 4 PM
Patschifig Optica may be new to Zürich, but it’s already gained attention for its local charm. Founded in 2023 by Pascal Moret and contact lens expert Eugen Klein, the shop feels refreshingly calm compared to big optical chains.
Inside, the space is neatly arranged with Swiss and European frames that mix quality craftsmanship with modern design. Pricing is clear: single-vision glasses start at CHF 330, while progressive ones start at CHF 880, already including coatings.
Klein personally handles contact lens fittings, offering a slow-paced and careful process that’s ideal for those with sensitive eyes. The approach feels personal, something that sets them apart from larger retailers.
But they have a smaller range of advanced lens technology. If you’re after highly customised or biometric lenses, this might not be the right place for you.
Nonetheless, Patschifig Optica wins for its easygoing service, sustainable mindset, and Swiss-made precision. It’s a great pick if you prefer a slower, more personalised approach to eye care over a fast retail experience.
Professional, genuinely kind and supportive
“I had a wonderful experience at Patschifig Optica. The staff was professional, genuinely kind and supportive. I was unsure which pair of glasses suited me best, and they generously let me try two different pairs for a whole week. No pressure, just helpful guidance. Their flexibility and care made the decision easy and stress-free. Highly recommended for anyone looking for excellent optical service and customer care. Thank you again!”
