1. Dr. Med. Univ. Kourosh Modaressi from Orthopaedic Surgery Zurich

Address: Seefeldstrasse 066, 8008 Zürich
Contact Details: +41 44 521 21 21
Operating Hours:
- Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
When I first visited Dr. med. Univ. Kourosh Modaressi, I was immediately impressed by how welcoming and organised the clinic felt. One of the first things we noticed is that he welcomes patients from all insurance plans.
But what we love most about Dr. Modaressi takes time to listen, approaching each client individually. During my appointments, I felt that he wasn’t just rushing through check-ups, but he actively analysed my situation.
Honestly, his explanations of preventive measures for long-term wellness were particularly helpful.
Meanwhile, for surgeries, Dr. Modaressi performs both inpatient and outpatient procedures at top facilities like Klinik Pyramide and Privatklinik Bethanien. All these definitely add a layer of convenience and reassurance.
However, follow-up appointments can sometimes take a while to schedule. This is because the clinic needs to coordinate with the hospital’s schedule.
Nonetheless, we also have to highlight Ms. Briefer, Dr. Modaressi’s assistant. She’s patient and thorough, helping organise appointments in a way that avoids unnecessary costs too.
Doesn’t rush patients to do surgery right off the bat
“Over the years I was treated a several times by Dr. Modaressi: injured ankle, knee problems and most recently he put back together my collarbone after it broke in 5 pieces. What I really value about Dr Modaressi is that he has a calm and clear way of explaining to you what your problem is and what your options are. He doesn’t rush or push you in to surgery, but helps you to find what treatment is the right one for your situation. Highly recommended!”

Provides a clear treatment plan
“Dr Modaressi and his assistant Ms Simonetta provided the best care and service I ever experienced with a surgeon and office staff. He is a very gifted doctor and reconstructed my badly damaged shoulder without the need for a prosthesis. I was able to get an appointment with him the day after my accident. They arranged the required MRI the following day and he had the problem fully diagnosed the day after. His diagnosis and options for treatment were clear and concise. They made all the arrangements for my hospital stay and even helped me solve problems with my insurance when it denied some of my benefits. I give them my highest recommendation.”

What we love about this orthopaedic specialist is that he remains hands-on with each of his patients, no matter how busy the day gets. Yes, he’s got his nurses in the clinic, but he would still arrange other medical procedures such as MRIs and CT scans.
After receiving the results, you can expect him to provide a comprehensive analysis. He will really take his time while providing detailed explanations to his patients.
Just a heads-up: make sure to check your bill’s line items, as some patients complained about being charged for medical services that weren’t rendered.
Nonetheless, Dr. Schenkel is also known for his good availability, allowing you to set an appointment with him right away. No need to wait weeks before you can secure an appointment with him, which is ideal for sudden appointment requests or even emergencies.
We also love that the clinic is just five minutes from the main train station, so we can get there by public transport.
Convenient location
“The practice team and Dr. Schenkel with his expert knowledge are outstanding. I can only praise the treatment methods, aftercare, and organization. The practice is also very centrally located, just a 5-minute walk from Zurich’s main train station. A superb orthopedic surgeon in Zurich and a very nice practice.”

- Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
If you’re dealing with sports injuries, Dr. med. Marcel Gloyer from Ortho-Sport is exactly the kind of doctor you hope to find.
You’ll love that he’s not the typical doctor who lets everything go through assistants or nurses; he’s very proactive. He personally called me that same day, arranged an immediate appointment and MRI, and even walked me through every step.
Another thing we love about the clinic is that the team tailors treatment to your lifestyle and goals. Additionally, Dr. Gloyer also understands the physical demands placed on athletes and active individuals.
You can trust him to focus not just on short-term recovery but also on long-term joint health and performance. We’ve also heard repeatedly that he’s known for leaving little to no scarring, which is a major plus if your injury involves a visible area.
On top of that, Dr. Gloyer is highly rated in patient reviews for professionalism and multilingual care (German and English).
However, the clinic’s not open on weekends. Moreover, last-minute and urgent appointments could be a little challenging to book.
Warm and caring doctor
“I highly recommend Dr. Gloyer. Even though he’s an expert in his field, he takes the time to explain everything clearly and effectively, which really helped ease my worries. Beyond his expertise, he’s also a very warm and caring doctor. You can truly feel that he cares for you throughout the entire process. He thoroughly explained all the options available for my case (a partial meniscus tear). I decided to go with PRP treatment, which helped me a lot. Even though I’m still in recovery, I know I can rely on Dr. Gloyer for any updates or developments in my healing journey. I can’t say enough good things, I highly recommend him!”

Has a great sense of humour
“I got my new knee a year ago. I’m completely satisfied and happy with it. I felt absolutely in good hands. Mr. Marcel Gloyar is extremely competent and a doctor with a great sense of humor, which also influenced my healing. I was walking without poles after just two weeks. Thank you so much, Mr. Gloyar 🙏🏼”

Known for their thorough examinations
“Very quick and accurate diagnosis given, based on a thorough examination. Also, the letter he wrote helped a lot with having my knee operation booked early, hence the recovery was swifter. Highly recommended as he is the best orthopaedist I know.”

5. Dr. Gregor Szöllösy

Address: Gladbachstrasse 95, 8044 Zürich
Contact Details: +41 44 260 84 68
Operating Hours:
- Monday – Friday: 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM, 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Dr. Gregor Szöllösy focuses on treating all conditions of the upper extremities, from wrists and hands to elbows and shoulders.
He studied medicine at the University of Zurich. His former roles include senior orthopaedic surgeon positions and specialised training in shoulder surgery. As a matter of fact, he worked with renowned shoulder expert Dr. Laurent Lafosse in Annecy, France.
What we love about this specialist is that he emphasises non-surgical treatments whenever possible. Even when surgery is necessary, he would still prioritise minimally invasive procedures, which means faster recovery and less scarring too.
The consultation itself is thorough, which we appreciate. He also explains every step of the diagnosis and treatment plan in clear language.
Another thing we love about coordinating with this specialist is that the clinic has a friendly, efficient system. From check-in to settling payments, there is almost no waiting time.
It’s worth taking note, however, that he’s not a great option if you prefer urgent care outside office hours. Additionally, you might have to wait until the following day to get a response.
Explains the procedure using simple terms
“I was experiencing increasingly severe pain and restricted mobility in my shoulder, sleepless nights, and no hope of improvement. Fortunately, Dr. Szöllösy was recommended to me. Finally, the correct diagnosis was made (frozen shoulder). After a short period of treatment, the pain gradually subsided and my mobility improved. I’m fit again today. Dr. Szöllösy is top-notch both professionally and personally, extremely patient, never stressed or under time pressure, and explains everything simply and vividly—in short, a gem in the medical jungle.”
